Burundi’s president, Pierre Nkurunziza, has filed a complaint against an unknown suspect for public defamation.
The complaint is in respect of a video that went viral showing acts of mutilation.
The video that was first aired by a French television is claimed to have been taken 2 days ago in Karusi province, North east of Burundi.
The video showed extreme actions leading to the murder of mainly people supporting the opposition.
It later emerged that the video was taken a month ago and probably from a West African country.
The French media has since apologized for the error.
Burundi has had a long history of violence including civil wars and four successful coups. The international community fears that the current turmoil could unravel more than a decade of relative peace.
